Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Dipali Sarkar, a 28-year-old resident of Cinema Hall Para in Ward No. 7 of Dhupguri Municipality, was critically injured on Monday morning after being attacked with a sharp weapon by her husband, Nirmal Singh. The incident took place on her way to work at a betel nut drying facility. Dipali suffered severe head injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Dhupguri Sub-divisional Hospital, where doctors have confirmed that she received seven stitches on her head.
According to police and local sources, Dipali and Nirmal were married four years ago. Dipali had reportedly moved to her parental home before Durga Puja, citing allegations of physical abuse by her husband. Local residents claimed that Nirmal frequently assaulted her and damaged household belongings. After moving back, Dipali started working to support herself.
The attack happened when Dipali was walking to work. Witnesses stated that Nirmal had been hiding in bushes near the roadside and attacked her from behind with a sharp weapon. The assault left Dipali lying in a pool of blood on the road. Locals and her family members rushed her to the hospital immediately after the incident.
Nirmal Singh fled the scene after the attack and remains untraceable. Police have launched a manhunt to locate him and are investigating the case further. Statements from family members and witnesses are being recorded to gather more details about the sequence of events leading up to the attack.
